Just Passing Through

"Then Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying, “I am a foreigner and a visitor among you."                                                                  Genesis 23:3,4
Genesis 23 provides us with several principles that are key to living a successful Christian life.  Of those, one principle that stands out is found in this phrase that Abraham speaks to the sons of Heth. Abraham declared to the sons of Heth, "I am a foreigner and a visitor among you. He was not just talking about his status among them.  He was prophetically speaking, and completely representing the heart of every true believer.  If we are to be spiritual successful, fit for eternity, we must have an accurate view of our life on earth.

Turn over to Hebrews 11 and Philippians 2.  These are passages that Abraham did not know, but that he greatly exemplified.  I suggest that you will want to hold closely to them.

Hebrews 11:13-16 : “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”

Philippians 3:20,21 :  “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself."
